To Anyone Whose Ever Been Hurt By A Christian
By: Heather Mountjoy, writer at Generation 31
To those of you who identify yourself as being homosexual.
On behalf of all Christians, I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that you feel like you are constantly being judged and looked down on. I’m sorry that every few posts in your newsfeed is some judgmental person telling you that you’re going to Hell. I’m sorry you haven’t been loved as you should have been.
To the unwed mother.
On behalf of all Christians, I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that people look at you like you’re a terrible person. I’m sorry that you were afraid to tell those around you about your precious miracle for fear of being shamed. I’m sorry that you haven’t been loved as you should have been.
To the person who struggles with addiction.
On behalf of all Christians, I’m sorry.
I’m sorry you feel like the church would catch on fire if you set foot inside the doors. I’m sorry that you feel like you can’t get help because people will look down on you. I’m sorry you’ve been called horrible names and been looked at as though you were a criminal. And I’m sorry that you haven’t been loved as you should have been.
To the person covered in tattoos.
On behalf of all Christians, I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that you feel uncomfortable in the presence of Christians because you think they are internally looking down on your artwork. I’m sorry that you feel people will judge you for marking on your body. I’m sorry you haven’t been loved as you should have been.
PS, I think they’re pretty cool.
To the woman who has had an abortion.
On behalf of all Christians, I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that people have become quick to anger and called you horrible names. I’m sorry that you feel like you can never talk to someone about it because they will think of you as a bad person. You’re not. I’m sorry you haven’t been loved as you should have been.
To the person who has walked away from the church.
On behalf of all Christians, I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that people have pushed you away from God. I’m sorry that the example of some “Christians” isn’t what it should be. I’m sorry that you were hurt. And I’m sorry you haven’t been loved as you should have been.
To the Christian who shouts out the sins of others in attempt to “save them from Hell.”
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that you missed the part in the Bible that tells you to love EVERYONE.
I’m sorry that you never got to read about what an awesome man Jesus was, especially when He spent his time with society’s outcasts.
On behalf of all humans,
go read your Bible.

Excellent post!!! This is a post that is much needed because these very scenarios are what push people away from Christianity or any organized religion for that matter. Thank you!!! I was once an unwed mother and felt shameful in the beginning, especially since my parents are both ordained ministers. They were very forgiving and accepting and so was my church family. While I don’t feel one should apologize on behalf of all Christians, it’s just nice to know that some people understand not to judge others. We are all works in progress!!!

Yaassssssssssssss. This is very dope on all levels. I feel so bad when Christians are at the forefront scandalizing everyone with their lives that are contrary to the teaching of Jesus while pointing fingers to all and sundry except to themselves. I’m sharing this. Thank you 🙂
